Fish Pond Modification  June 2010
On the 25th I finally got started on the changes I wanted to make on the fish pond.  1st will be to open the 'channel' that goes from the North to the South pond, or is that the South to the North, I get confused easy.

Now iffen aniest one thinks this is gonna be a easy project they can just excuse them selves now and go stand in the out house.  This pond was built over twenty years ago with over twenty tons of granite held together with a 1 to 1 cement sand mix.  That is gonna be some hard cement to crack and the granite where I am going thru is over two inches thick.

The  2nd part of the project is to widen the walk way between the pond and the laundry room wall.

This 'channel' was on a 'bend' of the pond so I got lucky in that I could take out a whole section of rock, which I did and believe me this telling of it is a whole lot easier then the doing.

But by the end of this very hot day I had it opened up, cleaned up and ready for the cement truck.

Also got the wood winter fence down and the rails that held the top removed.  Then decided to remove the PVC in the bottom or the North pond that was held down with cement that was to strong.

Day one started with a whole lot of rock moven cuz I needed to remove the 'cap' on the top of the pond sides.  It was there so any one getting to close to the pond would stub there toe and fall in.  That would be funny !  It also stopped dirty water run off from the walk way from getting in the pond.

So firestes I removes the cap and chipped off all the mortar that held it in place.  Nextestes I tackles the channel and that was a lot of fun.  Last year I opened the channel that use to be just a four inch PVC pipe between the ponds.  I chopped out all the cement and granite that was over the pipe and removed all the PVC except where it went into the North pond.

Day two was not the day after day one being yesterday I did not work on this critter.  Never mind what I did just know I did something else.

So we starts this day with getting the rest of the cement busted out where the PVC pipe was.  I left all the chunked up cement in the pond to use as fill later.  Then I cusses a lot cuz I needed to pick up these two BIG chunks of stone and get then to the pool area.

Never you mind how long it took just know I got then to and into the pond.  I moves um around till I got um where I wanted them then cemented in the bottom and center.  After using the chunked up cement I hauls in some dirt and back fills this critter then cemented the ends.  It was a good days work.

I starts the turd day of this project by having coffee with Big Al, seems Taglong has trouble getting up, could it be because of the hard ride he had yesterday or who he is in bed with ?  Aniest way and no how before it got hot I cements in the last of the side walk extension, or is that the pond reduction ?  Which ever it will be ready for cement on the top by the cool(er) part of the day.

Firstest I chops out the cement around the
'foot' and digs it out.

Then I tackles taking out this pipe and the 'foot' the old hand rail use to set on, I could still put the hand rail where it use to be but then to walk the side walk you would need one foot on each side of the rail !

Then chops off the pipe with the angle grinder.
Another job well done by the master doer.---

There I sit doing nothing later that same day when I notices how cool it was.  I checked the temperature device and it tells me it was 80 degrees cool !  What am I doing doing nothing I says to my self then carries my self out side and fixed me a cement block on the  side the channel and mixes me some cement.  Good mix, I uses four scoops of sand and four scoops of Portland.  Strong as you can make it and water proof.  By then I realized it might be 80 inside but my outside temperature device said 105 under the gazebo.  So I mixes faster, scoops it in place, worries it a little, cleaned up the cement truck and took me back inside.

One more piece of a day and this will be a done deal.  All I needs to do is pour the extension on the side walk.

FINALLY  I gets to day last on this project.  Whilest Monte and Liz sit at McD's wondering where every one be at ( Big Al and I just left )  I gets ready for the last of this pond/sidewalk thingie.  First thing I did was say "some one call me a cement truck" and I hears Vonnie say "okay, your a cement truck".  Not what I had in mind but I did get my truck out of the back yard and mixes and pours 150 pounds of cement.

No ! not this cement, that was a after thought being I had some left over.  The drain pipe stuck up about a inch taller then the bottom of the pond.  I could have just wacked it off but insted I fill the area with left over cement so now it will drain all the water when I pull the plug and not just some of it.

But the side walk is wider and the channel is a full channel insted of just a four inch pipe so I guess this is a done project.
